Two weeks to go and my partner keeps saying I'm going too big. How did you handle other people's opinions on your size?

Surgery is on the 4th. I went through three sizer sessions, chose 350 moderate profile with my surgeon, felt completely settled. Then I showed my partner the sizer photos and he said "that's a lot, are you sure?" and now he's said some version of it every day for a week.

He's not being horrible, I think he's nervous and he's always said he's happy with me as I am. But it's my body and I was sure, and now I'm not sure whether I'm unsure because of him or because I'm actually wrong.

Did anyone else get this from a partner or family? What did you do?

My mum did this and I very nearly dropped to 300 the week before. Kept 325. At month 4 she said "oh, they're not as big as I thought they'd be". People react to the idea, not the result.

That's the right question to ask, and you can test it. Go back to why you chose 350. If none of the reasons have changed and the only new thing is his reaction, it's his nerves you're feeling, not a mistake. If you genuinely think the sizers looked too much, that's different, and worth a call to your surgeon's team.

Ask him what he's actually worried about. In my experience it's often not size at all, it's the surgery, the anaesthetic, the risks, and "too big" is the easiest thing to say. Mine was worried about me flying home after. Once we talked about that, the size comments stopped.

Natalie you might be onto something. Asked him straight and he went quiet and then said he's scared something will go wrong. Nothing to do with the size. We've had a much better conversation since. Keeping 350. He's coming to the pre-op appointment so he can ask the surgeon his own questions.

Bringing him to pre-op is such a good shout. Good luck on the 4th, come back and tell us how week one goes.
